The Bardwell Park Station Upgrade is a major accessibility and infrastructure improvement project delivered as part of the Safe Accessible Transport programme. TradeConnex provides the RIW accredited rail labour hire behind the works, supplying reliable crews across each stage of construction. The scope includes a new lift, concourse and stairs, new canopies across the station entrance and platforms, platform regrading and resurfacing, upgraded accessible amenities including a new family accessible toilet, landscaping, accessible parking and kiss and ride spaces, and power supply upgrades including new transformers.
The Challenge
The upgrade is being built in an active rail environment. Most of the physical work can only be carried out during possessions, the booked windows when trains stop so crews can work safely on and around the tracks. Those windows are tightly scheduled and cannot overrun, and every worker on site must hold current Rail Industry Worker (RIW) certification. Consistency is as important as numbers, since familiar crews who know the site work faster and more safely.
The Solution
Since March 2025, TradeConnex has supplied 65 RIW accredited workers across the project, providing RIW inducted labourers and operators across various shutdowns and key construction stages. Rather than a single large mobilisation, our role has been to provide reliable, flexible workforce coverage when and where it is needed, keeping trusted, site-familiar crews on the job as the project progresses.
The Result
Working alongside the delivery team across a series of successful possessions, TradeConnex labour has helped deliver key stages of the upgrade, including the relocation of station services and the works enabling the new lift and step-free access. The project continues, and TradeConnex remains ready with the accredited workforce to make the most of every window, one shutdown at a time.
