Mount Colah Station Upgrade, Sydney, NSW

Location: Mount Colah, New South Wales

Project Timeline: May 2023 – August 2024

TradeConnex logo outline

The Mount Colah Station Upgrade was delivered as part of the Safe Accessible Transport programme, making the station fully accessible for people with disability, older Australians, and parents and carers with prams. TradeConnex supplied the RIW accredited rail labour hire behind the construction works. The scope included a new footbridge spanning the rail corridor, three new lifts and stairs, demolition of the existing footbridge, platform resurfacing, a new family accessible toilet, HV power upgrades, wayfinding signage, and lighting and security system upgrades.

The Challenge

The upgrade had to be built in an active rail environment. Most of the work could only take place during possessions, the booked windows when trains stop so crews can work safely on and around the tracks. Those windows are tightly scheduled and cannot overrun, and every worker on site had to hold current Rail Industry Worker (RIW) certification.

The Solution

TradeConnex supplied 33 RIW inducted labourers across the project. Rather than a single continuous mobilisation, we provided workforce coverage across the various shutdowns and possessions throughout the construction phase, keeping reliable, site-familiar crews available whenever a window opened.

The Result

The consistent, accredited workforce helped the delivery team make the most of every possession and carry the upgrade through to successful completion in August 2024, with a new footbridge, lifts and modern accessible facilities now open to the community.
